Alongside the axe, the Vikings' most important weapon was the sword. This was also reflected in their beliefs. Warriors who died in battle only entered Valhalla if they had died with a sword in their hand. The richness of form that the Vikings displayed in the design of their craftsmanship did not stop at swords.
Our replica of a Viking sword from the 10th century, suitable for display, is the result of our own intensive research and swordsmithing work. The initial aim was to create a reconstruction ourselves, which would later serve as a model for series production of both a version suitable for show combat and a decorative or sharpenable version. We deliberately chose a sword type that is not often found as a replica. As far as possible, we have oriented ourselves on original finds as described in the relevant specialist literature. However, we have adapted the shape and length of the blade and the dimensions of the hilt to the height of modern people and the requirements of modern show fighting.
Typologically, swords of this type are classified as Petersen Type S or Wheeler Type III. The design of the hilt is based on combination type 10 - as described by Geibig.
This Viking sword is made exclusively by hand. The forged EN45 spring steel blade has been oil-hardened and tempered to approx. 48-50 HRC. It has a pronounced fuller, which gives the sword great elasticity and lightness at the same time. It is forged through to the pommel and riveted to the end of the handle. The tip of the blade and the edges are blunt and rounded. The crossguard is forged from steel and the wooden handle is wrapped in leather.
The delivery includes a leather-covered wooden scabbard with richly decorated and stylish silver-plated brass locket and chape.
