Viking shield Fenrir 80 cm

The large Viking shield is made of approx. 13 mm thick plywood and decorated with a stylized motif of the Fenris wolf and a sequence of runes from the older Futhark that spells out his name.

In Germanic mythology, Fenrir, together with Hel and the Midgard serpent Jörmungandr, is one of the three enemies of the world. All three are the children of the evil god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. Fenrir fights against the existing order and ultimately embodies the destruction of the world.

The gods recognize his danger, chain him to a rock with a trick and sink him deep into the earth. In order for this plan to succeed, the god of war Tyr even sacrifices a hand. The wolf is tamed for a long time until it finally breaks its chains during the twilight of the gods and devours Odin. Odin's son Widar kills Fenrir, but it is too late, the father of the gods falls and with him the order of the world.

In the middle of the shield is a generously proportioned steel boss, which is firmly fixed in position with four rivets and offers enough space even for strong Viking hands. The edge of the shield is covered with rawhide, and the back of the shield is fitted with three riveted wooden reinforcement strips. The middle strip also serves as a fist grip and is wrapped in leather at the level of the shield hole for a comfortable hold.

Although this wooden shield is a little too thin for full contact, it remains a great accessory for reenactment, LARP, stage or TV/movie and will make your transformation into a proud Nordic warrior just perfect. It is also a beautiful collector's item or decorative object for all lovers of the Viking Age.
