Pot helmet of the Rieter of Kornburg L

This large pot helmet is a replica of a late medieval funeral helmet of the Rieter von Kornburg family from the Allerheiligenkirche Kleinschwarzenlohe.
The Rieter von Kornburg family (= Knights of Kornburg) was a patrician family that is documented to have been resident in Nuremberg since 1361. The helmet is dated to around the same time, around 1375, and was probably made by a Nuremberg plater. It is now on display in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (GNM) in Nuremberg.

Our reconstruction is handmade from 1.6 mm thick sheet steel. The steel parts are connected with brass rivets, as are the elaborate and decorative brass appliqués on the front. Incidentally, these are only painted on the original helmet.
The helmet has a chain mail made of unriveted spring steel (BTW mesh), a riveted, comfortable padded liner and a cowhide chinstrap with a brass buckle.
