The Hundsgugel, which was very popular with knights and warriors throughout Europe until around 1420, is a variant of the late medieval pelvic hood. The characteristic design of the visor with a protruding "snout" (for increased protection and better ventilation) gave this helmet its name.
The visored helmet that we offer here is a replica of an original piece from the 14th century (ca. 1395), which can be admired today in the armory of Churburg Castle(Castel Coira) in South Tyrol.
It is made of 1.8 mm steel and has a fully removable face guard, which is held securely in position with pins. The visor is equipped with an approx. 15 cm long, 1 cm wide viewing slit, and the many round cut-outs on the right-hand side provide the necessary air circulation. The so-called vervelles (small protruding rivets with holes) attached to the sides and lower edge of the helmet are used to attach a chain collar (the collar is not included).
The blackened interior is fitted with an adjustable, padded cotton inlay, which is attached to the edge of the helmet skull with sturdy stitching. The 3 mm thick brown leather chin strap is adjustable and fitted with a brass buckle.
This beautiful, wearable knight's helmet will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect. Of course, it also makes an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
