The burgonet, also known as a balaclava, developed from the Schaller at the beginning of the 16th century. The burgonet was primarily used by the infantry, later also by the cavalry, and became one of the most common helmet types of its time.
The reproduction offered here has the characteristic crest and an arched peak decorated with brass-coloured rivets.
The cheek flaps are decorated with brass elements and attached to the helmet with hinges, allowing them to swing out by almost 90 degrees. The additional neck crest, also known as the helmet beard, is also decorated with brass elements and brass-coloured rivets, has a three-part attachment and is strapped in front of the wearer's chin and the helmet's cheek flaps with a leather strap.
The helmet has a leather inlay with a chin strap.
