- suitable for show combat -
The balaclava (also known as the burgonet) developed from the Schaller at the beginning of the 16th century. Another name is the Burgundian Schaller. The balaclava was initially particularly popular with infantrymen such as Landsknecht pikemen, but later also with light cavalry and became probably the most widely worn helmet type in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Our reconstruction has the typical, distinctive helmet crest. The cheek flaps are movable and can even be removed thanks to the removable cotter pins.
The helmet is supplied with neck guards: an authentic closed but hinged version and a rigid SCA-compatible version with grille. However, it can of course also be worn without a neck guard if a larger field of vision is required
The helmet has a comfortable leather inlay and chin strap.
