Viking javelin tip, approx. 41 cm

The long, narrow, pointed Nordic spearheads were ideal for throwing. Their shape and weight, coupled with the momentum gained from the force of the throw, ensured high penetrating power.

On the battlefields of the early Middle Ages, the Northmen often carried several javelins or throwing spears with them, which were hurled at the enemy as soon as they were close enough. This allowed the warriors to swing their swords, axes or heavier thrusting lances unhindered in the ensuing close combat.

The Viking Age / early medieval javelin tip that we offer here is made of heat-treated EN45 carbon steel. It is approx. 41 cm long, has approx. 28 cm long cutting edges and two holes allow you to mount it on a wooden handle of your choice to create your very own Viking spear. Delivery does not include a shaft or mounting material.

Please note that this spearhead was primarily designed as a collector's item, decorative object or prop and is not suitable for exhibition fighting! The tip of the blade is not rounded and the edges are not sharpened, but ground.

The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regular maintenance of the spearhead, e.g. with Ballistol, a universal oil that is ideal for preserving steelware.
