The pelvic hood originated in the early 14th century from the so-called Hirnhaube and was widespread throughout Central Europe until the 15th century.
This is a reconstruction of a late medieval pelvic hood, made from 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and then polished. The helmet has a movable, fully removable visor. The visor is held securely in position with pins and chains and is equipped with a rectangular, approx. 2 to 2.5 cm wide viewing slit.
The inside has a leather inlay. The chin strap is made of black, 2 mm thick leather and has a steel buckle.
