This helmet is a faithful replica of a southern German stabbing helmet from the early 16th century.
The shape of the stabbing helmet, also known as the toad's head helmet, developed at the beginning of the 15th century from the bucket helmet or pot helmet. It was worn exclusively in conjunction with the so-called Gestech or stabbing tool and is therefore a pure tournament helmet.
Our helmet consists of a grooved crown plate, a front helmet wall tapered like a ship's bow and a rear helmet wall with a stepped and grooved back part of the head.
The individual helmet parts are joined together with decorative, original brass rivets. Side slits in the ear area not only make it easier for the wearer to hear, but also to breathe. The helmet is fitted with thick fabric padding under the crown plate. The helmet can be attached to a harness using the holes provided and the strap on the back.
A very beautiful and rare reproduction of German plate art.
Details:
Material: approx. 1.6 mm steel, brass rivets, fabric inlay
Suitable for a head circumference of up to approx. 63 cm
Long inner distance (back of head to forehead): approx. 21 cm
Short inner distance (ear-to-ear): approx. 19 cm
Height (incl. collar): approx. 42 cm
The above specifications may vary slightly from model to model.
The steel used here is not rustproof and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend maintaining helmets regularly, e.g. with Ballistol.
