Sax from Beagnoth

Reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon longsword from the 9th century. The original was found in the Thames in London in 1857 and is now on display in the British Museum . It is therefore also known as the Thames scramasax, or Thames sword.
The blade is elaborately engraved with a runic inscription, the first part of which is the Anglo-Saxon futhark (= alphabet). The second part of the inscription is Beagnoth, presumably the name of the bearer or the weaponsmith.

Our replica is largely identical in shape and dimensions to the early medieval original.
In addition to the inscription described above, the single-edged blade has a narrow, but quite deep, continuous fuller.
The wooden grip scales are attached to the tang with brass rivets and held in place by two brass rings.
The blade is unsharpened. A robust and stylish cowhide scabbard is included.
