At the end of the late Middle Ages and especially during the Renaissance, the parrying dagger or fencing dagger, which was primarily carried as a side weapon, enjoyed great popularity. It was usually carried in the left hand and used together with a main weapon - sword, rapieror sword - for a two-handed fighting style. With its distinctive crossguard, which offered protection to the lead hand and appeared in many different variations, this secondary weapon was mainly used for defense and was designed to parry, deflect, block or pinch enemy blades in close combat. However, it was also effective on the offensive and quite capable of stabbing an opponent. Artfully crafted and richly decorated daggers also served as a stylish display of the wearer's wealth, and knights and wealthy citizens often carried them as a status symbol.

Although the inexpensive display dagger we offer here is not an exact replica of a historical original, it has the typical characteristics of a traditional Renaissance parrying dagger. The unsharpened full tang blade made of EN45 spring steel has been hardened and tempered to approx. 48 HRC and is screwed (invisibly) to the pommel. A wide fuller runs down the middle for about half its length. The handle consists of a four-sided handle section with a wooden core and black leather cover, which is framed by a plug pommel and a strong, approx. 12 cm wide steel hand guard. The guard, which is curved towards the blade, ends with tapered, conical ends.

This beautiful thrusting weapon is supplied with a sturdy (approx. 3 mm thick), neatly sewn scabbard made of brown, vegetable-tanned leather with belt loop.

With its blunt, approx. 1.5 mm / 2 mm thick edges and rounded tip, this left-handed dagger is ideal for re-enactment, light show fighting or sparring. Of course, it is also ideal as a collector's item, decorative object or prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
