Viking long sax, Petersen type G, with leather sheath

Due to its overall length of 82 cm, this Viking Age sax knife (also known as a skramasax) can be classified more as a sword. It has a single-edged, blunt EN45 spring steel blade with a strong spine and a pointed point.
The continuous blade tang is riveted to the pommel in a stable manner. In the upper two thirds of the blade, along the spine, there is a particularly wide fuller that ends just before the tip of the blade. The wooden handle is tightly wrapped with a thin brown leather strap.

What makes this early medieval one-handed sword stand out from the crowd, however, is the unconventional shape of its crossguard and pommel. The Viking swords classified as Petersen type G are a very small group of rare, less common, mostly single-edged swords.
They are characterized by a lower parrying element and an upper parrying element or pommel, which usually have tapered ends that are twisted into symmetrical spirals and point away from the hilt.
As only a few finds are known to date, it remains quite difficult to make reliable statements about the exact dating and distribution of this type of sword. However, based on the few surviving examples (or fragments thereof), experts tend to assume that G-type swords originated in 9th/10th century Norway.

The Viking Langsax comes with a robust, high-quality scabbard made of brown leather with beautiful, hard-wearing braided stitching.

It should be noted that this Viking sword is not suitable for show fighting due to its unrounded blade tip. It is designed as a collector's item or decorative object, but is also ideal as a prop (e.g. to complete your costume) and will make your transformation into a proud Norse warrior simply perfect!
