Knight's sword Lake Neuchâtel with scabbard, 13th century

This decorative single-handed sword is a replica of a remarkably well-preserved archaeological find from the late 13th century, which was recovered from Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland. The original is now in the National Museum in Zurich (inventory no. IN 6982).

The original sword, classified as Oakeshott type XIV, has a broad blade that tapers evenly to a point, thus increasing the thrusting power without impairing the cutting and cutting performance.) It is fullered on both sides for about two thirds of its length.

The most striking feature of the sword is the enigmatic inscription N n S D, which is engraved in the fuller: Although there is still speculation about the meaning of this sequence of letters framed by two paw crosses, experts tend to believe that the letters stand for the abbreviation of a prayer or an invocation to God, possibly IN NOMINE SANCTI DOMINI (in the name of the holy Lord), IN NOMINE SANCTI DEI (in the name of the holy God) or IN NOMINE SALVATORIS DOMINI (in the name of the Savior and Lord).

The one-handed sword offered here is a faithful replica of this beautiful piece of medieval history. The engravings on the broad fuller of the double-edged EN45 spring steel blade are as faithful a reproduction as possible of the drawings that adorn the original. The edges are not sharpened and the full tang is riveted to the pommel. The hilt consists of a slightly downward curved quillons, a sturdy disk pommel and a grip section with a wooden core, tightly wrapped in thin blue leather strap. The guard and pommel are both made of solid steel.
This medieval knight's sword comes with a blue wooden/leather scabbard with two adjustable black leather carrying straps and antique-finish brass buckles.

It should be noted that this medieval sword is not suitable for show combat, but is designed as a collector's item or decorative object. It is also ideal as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect.
