Odin is the best-known and wisest Germanic god, whose outward characteristic is his one-eyedness. He gave his second eye in exchange for permission to drink from the fountain of knowledge. Odin's weapon is the spear Gungnir, forged by dwarves and decorated with runes, his mount is the eight-legged gray horse Sleipnir, his companions are the ravens Hugin and Munin. Through his self-sacrifice, Odin acquired the runes, which he passed on to the people. The father of the gods bestows his favor and protection on the wearer of this amulet.
