Since the 16th century, the term rapier (French rapière = sword) has primarily been used to describe heavy, extra-long swords with an iron-forged hilt or basket, which are fitted with ring-shaped braces to protect the thumb and the index finger resting on the so-called ricasso.
Thanks to the support provided by the index finger, the blade, which is often over 100 cm long, could be moved more deftly.
Our rapier has a total length of 120 cm, of which the blade is 98 cm. The handle is covered with braided wire.
