The Alamanni tribe settled in south-western Germany for almost five centuries from around 260 AD. In what is now Baden-Württemberg, entire settlements have been discovered and excavated in recent decades, for example between 1989 and 2005 at the Lauchheim cemetery.
These archaeological finds have provided unique insights into life in an early medieval village and allow conclusions to be drawn about the eating habits of the Alamanni
Using these sources and on the basis of written testimonies from historical writers of other cultures, the authors have created recipes as they might have been used at the Alamanni hearths around 1,500 years ago.
This book thus provides a culinary insight into a bygone and forgotten era.
Have fun with it!
