The silver-plated Viking snake amulet is a detailed replica of a pendant found in Gørding, Denmark.
The original snake pendant from Gørding was made of pure gold using an elaborate granulation technique. It possibly depicts an adder and is dated to the late Viking Age around 1000 AD.
In Viking mythology, the snake was of great significance and an important religious symbol, as various finds of snake amulets from the Viking Age show. The snake symbolized life, renewal and rejuvenation on the one hand, but also death, poison and destruction on the other. A snake amulet was supposed to give the wearer strength and power, health and a long life.
Like the original snake pendant from Gørding, this silver-plated replica also measures 2.5 x 1.6 cm.
A black leather strap measuring 1 m in length is included with the Viking snake amulet.
