So that the Knights Templar could recognize each other, Eugene III granted them the right to wear the cross permanently. This simple cross, either as an anchor cross or a paw cross, represents the suffering of Christ. The original red color was a symbol of the shed blood of Christ, but also of life. The shape of the crosses could vary depending on the dignitary. Our cross is a notched paw cross.
