Viking tunic Viborg reconstruction green

The appearance and cut of this tunic are based on an archaeological find dating back to the 11th century. in 1984, a bundle of cloth was discovered during excavations in Viborg (Denmark). It turned out to be individual fragments that could be put together to form a tunic. Only the back and sleeves were not preserved in their entirety, leaving a little room for interpretation.

The tunic has a very elaborate and unique cut for the time. The upper part of the torso is worked in two layers at the front and back and has a rectangle with seams leading diagonally away from it. The neckline has two slits and drawstrings. The sleeves have a straight cut and are complemented by a gusset in the underarm area. The sleeve consists of a total of three pattern pieces and tapers towards the hem. The side seams are slit, with the back section extending a few centimetres over the front section and covering the upper part of the slit.

Our cotton tunic is a unique reconstruction of the vibor tunic from the Middle Ages. We have placed particular emphasis on the correct cut of the dividing seams, the workmanship in the details and the correct proportions. We have lengthened the overall length of the torso and sleeves slightly for aesthetic reasons. Our Viking tunic therefore has long sleeves and the hem ends at thigh height.
The elaborate tunic can be worn both as an upper and lower tunic. The fabric (100% cotton) is medium-strength and double-layered in the torso area.

The tunic is the perfect garment for all Norsemen. For an authentic costume, we recommend combining it with a belt, calf wraps and rush trousers.
