The Benedictine scapular is made of coarsely woven cotton and is completely open at the sides.

A scapular is a drape over the chest and back in the costume of some monastic orders.
The Benedictines, Cistercians, Trappists, Carthusians, Carmelites, Dominicans, Premonstratensians and Canons Regular wear a habit with a scapular; since the late Middle Ages, the scapular has also been part of the nuns' habit.
