Half boot with toggle and nailed-through leather sole.

Manufactured using the nail-through method. Almost indistinguishable from a turn-stitched shoe, but much more stable in construction. The vegetable-tanned upper leather is very supple and robust!

The sole of these early medieval half boots consists of two layers of sole leather. Profiled nails have also been worked into the lower sole. This variant of sole finishing, which has been known since antiquity, provides more grip and extends the durability of the sole.

This shoe is based on a find exhibited in the Museum of London. Similar toggle shoes were also found in Jorvik (York) and Haithabu.

Upper leather - thickness approx. 2.5 mm
Outsole - thickness min. 8 mm

If you want to wear the shoes with insoles or thick socks, you should choose the "regular" shoe size. Then you should have enough room for socks and insoles. However, if you do not want to use an insole or only want to wear thin socks, we recommend choosing one size smaller than street shoes.

This shoe is dyed by hand with an alcohol-based oil dye and then sealed. Due to the handmade nature of the work, there may always be slight variations in color from the illustration.
This makes each shoe unique and a suitable addition to any medieval costume.
