The original Bayeux Tapestry is a strip of cloth almost 70 meters long and 50 centimeters high, which tells the story of the conquest of England in 1066 in colourful, embroidered pictures. More precisely, it is between 48 and 53 centimetres wide and 68.38 metres long; originally it probably measured over 70 metres, but some parts have been lost. In the true sense of the word, it is not a carpet, as the term carpet is associated with weaving, but it consists of eight pieces of linen joined together, on which the motifs have been embroidered with different coloured woollen threads. The edges are decorated with ornaments and depictions of animals, while the upper edge is embroidered with numerous explanatory Latin inscriptions of the events and people depicted. The carpet was probably made around 1070, but definitely no later than 1082. And the work on the carpet probably took around 10 years. It is now kept in the municipal museum in Bayeux in Normandy, France.

Our replica measures approx. 48 x 144 cm. Woven throughout - not printed. A loop is sewn into the upper section through which a rod / bar can be inserted for wall mounting. This rod is not included in the scope of delivery.
