Pine shavings

Pine shavings are the medieval light source par excellence, as only the wealthier could afford candles or lamp oil in the Middle Ages. For the common people, pine shavings had to suffice.

The pine shavings are approx. 10 cm long and approx. 1 x 2 cm thick and are very resinous, which means they burn well and brightly. Packed in 5 pieces.

For thousands of years, people could only light their homes with the light of pine shavings and so pine shavings were an indispensable and inexpensive light source for many people until well into the Middle Ages and sometimes even into modern times.
