Viking needle box made of real bone, based on a model from the Viking city of Birka. It is fitted with a brass wire ring, as was typical for Viking needle boxes.
Needle boxes were already in use in Roman times. They were used to keep delicate and precious needles made of bone, iron and bronze safe and protected. The brass wire ring made it easy to attach the needle box to clothing.
Dimensions: approx. 7 x 1.5 cm.
Opening diameter: approx. 1 cm
ATTENTION: The needle box is open on both sides. To close it, it is advisable to place a piece of new wool on both sides - this ensures that the needles are held in place and do not slip out.
Needle boxes in Viking times were usually worn on a ribbon or chain attached to a brooch on the garment. This meant it was always to hand, but not in the way.
